Your Retirement Number Might Be Bigger Than You Think
When I ask people, “How much do you think you’ll need to retire?” the answers are all over the map. Some say $1M. Others guess $5M.
Here’s a quick way to check if you’re on track, the 20× Rule:
1️⃣ Take your current annual income
2️⃣ Multiply it by 20
3️⃣ That’s your ballpark retirement savings target
Example:
💰 $100K income → aim for about $2 million
💰 $150K income → think $3 million
Why this works:
Keeps withdrawals under 5% a year, helping your money last 25-30 years
Accounts for inflation and rising healthcare costs
Gives you a quick, no-spreadsheet estimate
Of course, it’s just a starting point. Your real number depends on:
✅ When you retire
✅ The lifestyle you want
✅ Other income streams (Social Security, rental income, pensions)
✅ How your investments and taxes are managed
💡 Smart Move Tip: Don’t guess, Plan for it. The earlier you map out your retirement income, the more flexibility and security you’ll have.
